Switching to image edit mode

You must switch to image edit mode to edit pixels in the bitmap you imported or created. You can easily change image edit mode settings.

To switch to image edit mode:

Double-click the image using the Pointer tool.
Select the image object, and choose Modify > Image Object.
Click an image object with any of these tools: Marquee, Ellipse Marquee, Lasso, Polygon Lasso, Magic Wand, Eraser, or Rubber Stamp.

To temporarily hide the striped border:

Choose View > Hide Edges. Leaving image edit mode turns off Hide Edges.

To prevent the striped border from surrounding the entire document:

Choose File > Preferences, click the Editing tab, and deselect Expand to Fill Document.

This is helpful if a document contains small bitmap images and you want the striped border to surround the selected image only.

To return to object mode from image edit mode:

Choose any selection tool and double-click on an area outside the image.
Double-click an area of the document window beyond the canvas with any selection tool.
Click the Stop button located on the Status bar (Windows) or at the bottom of the document window (Macintosh).
Stop pointer and Stop button

Choose Modify > Exit Image Edit.
Press Control+Shift+D (Windows) or Command+Shift+D (Macintosh).
Press the Esc key.

When you leave image edit mode, the excess empty space is trimmed off the edges of the image object.
